I have five budget friendly Valentine’s Day ideas for dates AND five budget friendly Valentine’s Day ideas for gifts for you! A little twist on the classics – I personally want to try them all.
As a new mom, it can be hard to think romantically. Especially when you just finished cleaning spit up off your shirt. But just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you don’t need a little romance! If you’re feeling stay at homey or just operating on a budget, I’m here to help. You can still have the best day and give meaningful gifts to your husband without spending the big bucks. Honestly, sometimes at home dates can be the most romantic and thoughtful dates of all.
Budget Friendly Valentine’s Day Date Ideas
1. Movie + Ice cream
Okay, get one your fav Ben and Jerry’s ice cream (or whatever pint size brand you love), get all your cozy blankets and pillows, turn the lights off, and cuddle up close. Eat your ice cream straight from the carton (because there’s no other way) Lady and the Tramp style – sharing bites and all the romantic things. Me and Nick watch movies together but sometimes I like to multitask while we watch it, so I miss things and am not fully present. It’s not romantic. So be all in and enjoy each others company.
2. Moody Dinner
Make him his favorite dinner (ideas here!), dim the lights, light candles, play love songs in the background, dress up, the whole shabang. You don’t have to go out to dress up! I feel like as moms, we often just put on whatever is comfy and easy (guilty), because why bother. But it feels so good to dress up. (Here are my fav Amazon outfit finds!) It’s nice to remember that you’re actually a cute person. And also fun to remind your husband (who obviously thinks you’re cute no matter what). But definitely a little pick me up for everyone involved.
3. Spa Treatment
Start with face masks. Put cucumbers on your eyes (a non negotiable). Then take a warm bubble bath together. When you’re ready, get all cozy in your robes and take turns giving each other massages. But not your ordinary massages. Go all out. Make your bed into a little massage table, dim the lights, turn on the salt lamp (if you have one), play instrumental background music. And the most important part, massage oil. You can literally use coconut oil. It takes the massage from a 5/10 to a 10/10. You can even google a couple fun massage techniques to try out on each other. Quality time with your spouse AND a relaxing massage. What more could you want? Also how fun to find out your spouse is an undiscovered masseuse.
4. Chocolate + Love Languages
Buy different chocolates to try! You can buy an assorted chocolate box or buy some chocolate a la cart (my personal favorite brand is Hu) you’ve been wanting to try. THEN. Take the love language test and figure out each of your love languages. There are five different love languages – quality time, physical touch, words of affirmation, gifts, and acts of service. Knowing how your spouse feels loved is a game changer in effectively showing them you love them! While you’re enjoying your chocolates, talk about your love languages and make a list of ideas you can do to make each other feel loved.
5. Takeout + Dancing
First order takeout from your favorite restaurant. Preferably from a genre with chopsticks because isn’t eating with chopsticks straight out of the container romantic? Then, rearrange your living room to make space for a picnic blanket. Play a romantic playlist in the background. Eat your takeout sitting on the blanket. Laugh, talk, flirt, all the date-like things. Finally, move your takeout things aside and turn up the music. Slow dance to to all your favorite love songs whispering sweet nothings into each others’ ears.
Budget Friendly Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas
1. Coupon Jar
Create a jar with 10 (or more) coupons for your husband. Include all of his favorite things! And his least favorite things that you’ll do for him. A massage, he gets to pick the restaurant, he picks the movie, you’ll clean his golf clubs for him, etc. This is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
2. Giant Card
Buy him a giant card and write all the things you love about him inside. Fill it up with all the things. Big and small. Giant cards just feel so fun to me. And a little more special than words on normal piece of paper.
3. Yourself
Give yourself as a present! You heard me right. You are the (best) present. Literally wear some cute lingerie and put a bow on your head when he comes home from work (if you have a sitter 😉 ) or when the kids go to bed! He’ll love it. Trust me.
4. Hobby Gift
Get him something new for his favorite hobby! If he loves golf – monogrammed golf balls, 9 holes of golf, a golf club cleaning kit (my husband has this one and loves it). If he loves to read – a new book (this one recommended by my husband) or a magazine subscription. Or if he loves working out – a new workout T, cool workout socks (quality socks are underrated), or a gym bag or backpack.
5. Playlist
Make a playlist of songs that make you think of him. This is so high school and I love it. Listen to them together and tell him why each song makes you think of him. This was too fun to pass up so I made one for my husband. Here it is if you need some inspo!
