Your pregnancy announcement is one of the MOST exciting announcements to make (in my humble opinion). For everyone involved. Telling someone they get to be an auntie or a grandma or are getting a new little bestie is just the best. SO. The way you announce is kind of a BIG deal. And always fun to capture.
If you’re reading this and are pregnant, CONGRATS!! I’m so excited for you. Growing a baby is one of the most beautiful, honorable, challenging things you’ll ever do and it’s worth every second. Truly. And now you get to tell the world!
I spent way too much time trying to think of a creative pregnancy announcement for my family when we were pregnant with our first. I wanted it to be unique and cute but not too elaborate. So I’m here to relieve your stress and give you all of my best ideas! These are not your every day pregnancy announcement ideas. They are unique, creative, fun, and will for sure keep your family on their toes! Some are hobby specific or seasonal, but most can be used anytime!

1. Eggspecting
Have your family over for breakfast. Make them eggs (obviously). Write “we’re eggspecting” using ketchup in the pan the eggs are supposed to be in. You’ll have to channel your creative juices a little bit. Ketchup writing has never been my specialty haha. Have the pan on the table with a lid on and when you’re ready to eat take off the lid! An eggcellent (I had to) surprise for everyone.
2. Family Photo Countdown
Get everyone together to take a family picture! Get the camera all set up and instead of setting the photo timer, press record. Have your husband (or you!) countdown. After one say, “(insert wife’s name) is pregnant!” Then you get everyone’s reaction on video and it’s so fun. I like this one because you can do it whether it’s your first baby or your sixth! This is how we announced our first pregnancy and I will forever cherish the video.
3. Pregnancy Diet
Tell your family you’re trying out a new diet. Talk about all the crazy things it entails – no caffeine, no sushi, no lunch meat, no soft cheeses, you’ll probably be hungry all the time, etc. They might catch on! If not, you can ask them if they want to know what it’s called. And that’s when you get to say “it’s called I’m pregnant!” My sister did this to her best friend and it’s the cutest video. Here’s the link if you want to see!
4. Dinner Out
Okay this pregnancy announcement is so fun. Go out to dinner with your family (or whoever you’re announcing to) and get the server in on it!! When they bring out your food, have your server bring out a plate with baby shoes on it! Or a onesie. Or write “we’re pregnant” on the plate! They can bring this plate out instead of one of your parent’s actual food, or bring it out as the appetizer or dessert!
5. Gift
Give someone in the group a gift with baby shoes, a baby onesie, or a grandma (whatever their relation to the baby) mug! I doubt much explanation will be needed after that!
6. Photo Shoot
Okay I’m always here for an excuse for a lil’ photo shoot. Bring along your ultrasound pictures, baby shoes, and/or a little onesie! You can get some pictures with just you and your husband (and kids if you have them) and then add in your props! Such a fun way to document your pregnancy/announcement. Have your favs printed and frame them! You can give them as a gift to announce, or just have the frame displayed in an obvious spot at your house! It will be fun to see if anyone notices.

7. Cake
I just feel like there has to be a pregnancy announcement idea with cake since I am The Cake Mom after all. So, volunteer to bring dessert! And bring cake! Use frosting to write “little cupcake coming (insert due date)” on the top. You can leave it uncovered and wait to see who notices. OR keep it covered until you’re ready to serve it for a dramatic reveal.
8. Birthday Party Invitation
Create a birthday party invitation for your due date! You can have them printed out to bring to your family. Or you can create them online and send via text or email. Either way, I LOVE this idea. I think I would be less nervous to hand out a paper verses having to be creative with my words. (Anyone else get so nervous to announce their pregnancy?)
9. Outfit
Ask if your outfit makes you look pregnant. You can drag it on and act insecure, pull your shirt tight, show off your tummy. I’m sure people will respond with “no” (depending on how far along you are) and you can finish your sentence, “because I am!”

Games – if your family is into games, they’ll appreciate these ideas
10. Euchre
Get a game of euchre going. On one of the cards write “(insert name) is pregnant!” Strategically deal the card to you or your husband so you can lay it down when the timing’s right! We did this to my in-laws and they were shocked!!
11. Empire
To play this game, everyone writes one name down on a piece of paper to put into a bowl. The object of the game is to guess who wrote what name, and if you guess someone correctly, they join your empire. Before you begin the game, there’s a designated reader to read through the names outloud. Instead of writing a name on your paper, you write “(insert name) is pregnant!” Someone else will be announcing your pregnancy to the group! This adds to the fun because everyone will be trying to figure out if it’s real or just a part of the game.
12. Fish Bowl
For fish bowl, everyone writes 1-3 people, places, or things and puts them into a bowl. You go through the terms in three rounds. The first round you describe, the second you act, and the third you can use one word to describe the word. For one of your three terms, write “(your name) is pregnant!”. It will be so funny to see the person who draws this name register what they’re reading and have to describe it to everyone else. It will be a surprise for you too because you don’t know who’s going to draw it!
Seasonal
13. Bracket
If your pregnancy announcement happens to fall during March madness, this is so fun! Especially if your family is into sports. Have everyone over to your house to watch a game. Have them bring their brackets. In YOUR bracket, fill the winning team spot with “(insert wife’s name) is pregnant!” When everyone is gathered around the TV to watch the game, throw up your bracket on the TV to compare with others and (in air quotes) “see how you’re doing.” Then just wait to see who notices!! We announced this way to my husband’s family and it was so funny. Here’s an example bracket for you!

14. Pumpkin
This will work in fall! Get a cutie pumpkin and write “Our little pumpkin coming (insert due date).” Bring the pumpkin to your family or friends house that you want to tell! You can just carry it in and give them the pumpkin as a hosting gift. Their new favorite pumpkin for sure.
If you Already have Kids
15. Big Sibs Gear
Get a cutie big brother or big sister hat or big brother or big sister T-shirt for your child! This is such a fun one because you can just have them wearing it when people come over and wait to see how long it takes people to notice. It sometimes takes a minute for people to register. I’ve been announced this way two different times and it’s so funny to see the realization hit everyone.
